Straitwatch

Straitwatch educates boaters and other coastal residents about marine species at risk, highlighting conservation issues these animals face and providing solutions to decrease impacts on marine mammals. These goals are accomplished via face-to-face interactions with mariners on their boats and at the dock where we provide information on the Be Whale Wise Marine Mammal Viewing Guidelines, species at risk and their natural history. Straitwatch engages visitors and residents through presentations and and interactions with visitors and guides at fishing resorts and kayaking camps. The overall aim is to decrease human induced impacts on these animals.

Straitwatch has programs based in Alert Bay, BC and Victoria, BC.
